I’m having my first sale! Until 12th December, Kindle copies of Force of Chaos will be .99 on Amazon US and Amazon UK.
Meanwhile I need to make some time to contact review sites to offer the book up for review.
Authors really depend on getting reviews these days. My publisher has been sending out review copies of Force of Chaos and I hope some will appear on Amazon soon! Meanwhile, I found one review and two ratings on Goodreads. The review and one of the ratings was 5 stars, yay!
The other rating was 1 star. Oh dear. Naturally I was curious as to why the discrepancy so, though I’m not a stalker, I peeked at the book preferences of the one star rater to see if maybe I just wasn’t her thing. Sure enough, her preferences started with “Christian Fiction”.
Now, Force of Chaos is NOT anti-Christian, far from it. However, I can see how it might raise objections from a certain sector of the religion who might expect something different from what I’ve written. Fire and brimstone don’t feature. Instead I’ve written about a 15-year-old boy who, being incarnated, wants what most teenagers want. Friends who like him for himself instead of his supernatural abilities, a girlfriend whose parents won’t forbid her going out with him because of who he is and a future he can decide for himself instead of fitting into a mold determined before he was born.
Is it so much to ask?
I suppose I was taking a risk by publishing this book first when most of my stories are about merpeople and other mythological creatures. On the other hand, religious backlash helped to make the Harry Potter books as popular as they became.
To me, it was just the story I was driven to finish first. I blame the duck. I respect the beliefs of all people, but it’s only a story. No harm intended.
I expect there will be more who take exception at the subject matter. I’ll just accept that as an inevitability and keep writing my stories as I feel they need to be written. I’ve covered this subject though. The next one will have merpeople!
It took a few days, but the Amazon page now connects the Kindle and paperback versions of Force of Chaos. Now all I need are some reviews! This is being pursued now. It is to be offered up on the November listings for Early Reviewers on LibraryThing and I will be contacting some independent reviewers myself to offer copies.
Also, the book has been offered on the Audible site for a narrator to make an audiobook version. How exciting!

I’m not sure how soon, but it will be offered in other e-book formats once some of Amazon’s sales tools have have used to best effect.
In the meantime I’m working on my second book. I don’t have a title yet, but I do have a plot outline. All I’ll say about it for the moment is that it involves Mer-people. This is the sort of fantasy that made me decide to start seriously writing. The avatar I use on some of my social media might give a hint of that.
Follow me on Twitter if you like! I’ll be sorting out a Facebook page soon.
Just in time for Halloween!
Force of Chaos: The Coming of Age of the Antichrist
The Kindle version became available yesterday. The paperback should be out tomorrow. from Amazon for now, though it will be available in other e-formats in 90 days.
Incarnation bestows free will and the Antichrist is waging a teenage rebellion!
Lucas doesn’t want to grow up to be like his father. What teenager does? But for Lucas it’s not the same because his father is the devil himself and Lucifer expects his incarnated son to embrace his destiny as the Antichrist. Lucas has other ideas.
A California high school is the perfect environment for an adolescent boy with special abilities to play down being ‘different’ and seek friends, rather than followers, but what teenager could resist using his powers to get to class on time or deal with the school bully?
When a local group of self-styled Satanists kidnap the girl he loves, how far will Lucas be willing to go to save her from the very people who seek to enlist his aid?
Find out while the introductory price remains only $1.98 through Halloween!
Release of Force of Chaos within the next few days is looking optimistic. I’m just wrapping up a few things on the last chapter. The editor is only two chapters behind me and the final proof reader is halfway through and really enjoying it.
They’ve both asked me if I’ll be continuing with these characters in another book. I hadn’t planned to. Force of Chaos was intended to be a stand alone book and I’m looking forward to getting started on my Mer people story, much of which already has a basic outline.
I can see how the characters from Force of Chaos could expand and continue into further adventures. It’s a tempting idea. I’ll ruminate on the idea while I work on the next story and see what readers have to say. In the meantime, I’ll have to research the lifespan of a duck (you’ll get why if you’ve read the story).
Goodness! Where did August go?
Just to update anyone following this young blog, I’ve been busy writing and pushing myself to finish my wip in time for a Halloween release. Sooner if it can be edited in time.
Why Halloween when I’m a Fantasy writer?
Well, this particular book deals with the old good and evil dichotomy. It’s a little deviation from my usual writing about spirits and mythological creatures, but it fits, trust me.
I’ll have more to say about it closer to finish, but here’s an early preview of the bookcover, which was recently finished.
Like most people, I have a few favorite authors. Those who I think would be my major influences include some well-known authors and a few lesser known ones. Out of interest, I’ve had a look around at some of their websites.
Neil Gaiman http://www.neilgaiman.com/
Mary Stewart (deceased) https://www.harpercollins.com/author/cr-101362/mary-stewart/
Alwyn Hamilton https://www.alwynhamilton.com/

Mark Lawrence http://www.marklawrence.buzz/
Tanith Lee (deceased) http://www.daughterofthenight.com/
Susan Kay https://www.fantasticfiction.com/k/susan-kay/
This is not a comprehensive list, but the first ten authors that came to mind with their website addresses or other information if they don’t have their own websites. The deceased ones are excused!
Another interesting blog site worth checking out for information on writing is The Story Telling Ape https://thestoryreadingapeblog.com/
Hopefully this will give you an idea of the influences that affect my writing. I’ll provide a few samples soon, when my first release is closer to publication. It won’t be long now. The editor is trying to finish in time for the Halloween season. Although my books are Young Adult Fantasy, this first one is going to have a devilish twist. Watch this space!
Thanks for joining me! These days an author needs a blog and I’ve become an author, so here we are. Of course my name isn’t known as yet. My first book hasn’t been released. But that time is coming soon and when the hoards of fans search me out, I’ll have a landing page. For both of them. Hi Mom!
Seriously though, I’ll try to find some interesting things to share, because books don’t get written overnight and if all I post about is my writing progress, things could get a little dull.
So when you find this post at the bottom of the blog, the journey started here. Hopefully there will be exciting times ahead, for all of us.
